I started exhibiting works of art in the late 1980s, and since then I have sold work and travelled all over the world. I grew up on a mountain farm in Cefnddwysarn near Bala, but I have lived by the sea in Pwllheli since 1996. Welshness - or rather the experience of living in Wales - is one of the strongest themes in my work; the dresser, the clothes, the faces and habits of the family are all often woven together and demand attention. Over time, the domestic and family themes have developed to include elements of the touristic symbols of Wales such as the stereotypical tea towels. Although the echoes of my early landscapes in the Berwyn mountains are evident in my latest pieces, the main inspirations now are the coast and beaches of the Llŷn Peninsula.

Images of my background and upbringing in Meirionnydd are evident in my work - the home and the farm; the celebrations and the clothes; the Welsh music and culture; the family customs and the familiar faces.

Since moving to the coast in Pwllheli, my work shows images of the tourist tea towels from Wales, as well as the local maritime industries. The boats and their sails, the ports and the landscape, which were at first foreign to me having been brought up on a mountain farm, are now important elements in my recent work.

My work has been exhibited widely throughout Wales, as well as in galleries in Scotland, England and Ireland. My series Ffrogiau Cerdd Dant - Cerdd Dant Dresses has been shown at the Belger Arts Center, Kansas City, U.S.A. as part of the highly successful Prints of Wales exhibition. In recent years, my work has been in demand from many private collectors and their response to the newer works has been very rewarding. Pieces of my art are in private collections all over the British Isles, France, Germany, Hungary, Japan, Canada and America, as well as in the public collections of MOMA Wales Machynlleth, Gwynedd County Council, Oriel Ceredigion Aberystwyth, and the Newport Gwent Gallery and Museum.

I have appeared twice on the television programme Byd o Liw. The first time, I was responding artistically to Harry Riley's posters from Aberystwyth. In 2002, Portrait of Catrin Williams, a programme produced by Ffilmiau'r Bont, gave me the chance to look in a new way at my upbringing and earliest influences. In 2020, I was one of the artists who created a portrait on the programme Cymry ar Gynfas on S4C. Over the past thirty years, several items about my work have been broadcast on television channels - S4C, BBC1 Wales and ITV Wales throughout Wales; BBC2 throughout Britain; and TG4 in Ireland.

Ever since I graduated from the College of Art in Cardiff over thirty years ago, I have put my energy into painting and illustrating my world. I develop series of unique works, exhibit them regularly and strongly believe in encouraging and supporting other artists from nursery classes onwards and from all corners of society. Very often I come across art college students who study my work - students who are keen to discuss their craft and spark my enthusiasm.

I'm usually preparing for a specific exhibition. In January 2021, I did a solo exhibition at Oriel Plas Glyn y Weddw, and the themes were the music of Gwenno Saunders and Lleuwen Steffan.

I start the work by sketching images that match the theme in my sketchbook and also listen to the music, which inspires images.

I recreate the image while working in a monoprint method on fabric, and then add colour with ink and paint. I sew small pieces of colourful materials as patchwork and possibly add pastels, before framing the work in a white frame with glass.

I have also created capes for the two singers to wear when performing in the exhibition - a red one for Gwenno with images of dragons and mythical figures, and a blue one for Lleuwen which depicts the figures of Bendigeidfran.

I like to use mixed materials - from paper to curtain linings and sheets, wood, and tables. I create images by printing, using colourful inks, sewing material, and oil paints and pastels.

The work is developing all the time. Much of the personal work is derived from personal experiences, family events or a beautiful view.

Working on commissions changes the work too. In 2021 I had the opportunity to create a portrait of Beti George on the S4C programme, Cymry ar Gynfas. Following this experience, I intend to introduce more portraits into my personal work.
